Pre-silicon Digital Verification Sign-Off for Infineon Automotive Microcontrollers

Conference: DVCLUB Europe | Signing Off: What are your Verification Tape-Out Criteria
Speaker: Tim Blackmore, ATV MC Global Verification Manager, Infineon Technologies
Abstract:

The presentation describes pre-silicon digital verification sign-off criteria used across the Infineon Automotive Microcontroller group. The sign-off shows that all stated verification objectives have been achieved. The objectives include verification of all requirements and all features identified using methods given in the ISO26262 standard, as well as showing that all the implemented RTL code has been sufficiently exercised. The objectives are mapped to determinable targets in a verification specification. After execution, the verification report shows whether the targets have been achieved or not, giving a clear pass or fail.

3 Key Points:

  • Planning and specifying are key to sign-off
  • A product verification plan can be used to ensure consistency of execution and sign-off across many teams executing across multiple sites
  • Each team writes a verification specification that makes planned objectives specific and describes how these are mapped to determinable targets. The report of the executed verification then shows that the targets have been achieved
Speaker Biography: Tim is the global verification manager for Infineon’s Aurix 3G family of microcontrollers. The verification of Aurix 3G is executed across seven sites in Europe and Asia and it is the verification manager’s job to put processes in place to ensure the execution is complete and consistent. Tim also has a technical leadership role with a focus on the application of machine learning to verification and is a Visiting Industrial Fellow at the University of Bristol.
